The private debt class presents the hardest case for implementing blockchain technology. In contrast, there is a lot of liquidity, price stability and institutional investor recognition for Treasury Bonds, whereas a portfolio of invoice finance, trade receivables and SME loans has none of these characteristics. A pool of private debt is illiquid by nature, valued using a model rather than based on market rates, and essentially only has two parties (the lender and the borrower) who are party to a contract with an existing relationship between them using established commercial terms. Before the entry of RWAs, Centrifuge was already addressing this exact issue by developing a solution. The Centrifuge platform has engineered a pipeline for<a href="https://www.coindesk.com/business/2025/11/12/rwa-specialist-centrifuge-debuts-tokenization-service-starting-with-daylight" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a><a href="https://www.coindesk.com/business/2025/11/12/rwa-specialist-centrifuge-debuts-tokenization-service-starting-with-daylight" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">over $1.3 billion of tokenized private credit</a> (which is more than $33 billion out of all private credit). The amount of private credit was established through the infrastructure development of an illiquid credit product that will be treated like other financial products inside the cryptoeconomy, and enabling creditors and debtors to meet their contractual obligations without having to go through the process of creating a new contract.<h2>How the Core Model Works</h2>The Centrifuge pools are the focus of Centrifuge architecture. The types of assets that can originate as a pool could be invoice finance (debt product), private credit funds, or real estate lenders that pool their actual credit products and show them on chain as structured vaults. In this manner, through smart contracts, they are able to automatically manage how cash is distributed, when interest is earned, when cash is allocated, and how cash is accounted for on behalf of the pools. In Centrifuge's capital structure, there are both junior and senior tranches with the risk and return characteristics equivalent to those of a typical structured credit product from the institutional investor perspective; however, Centrifuge uses no traditional securitisation sec desk to manage any mechanical aspects of the transactions. To provide some legal framework that all this operates within, each underlying asset exists in a legal jurisdiction and (meaning legally enforceable in a traditional jurisdiction) is located in an offshore special purpose vehicle. Therefore, all the funding, reporting, and settlement of the source assets, i.e., the loans, are managed at the on-chain level. As a result, regulated entities can work with Centrifuge on the architectural decision to separate the blockchain from the traditional legal framework and, therefore, be able to access global DeFi liquidity without imposing controls on their loan portfolios via on-chain smart contracts.<h2>The DeFi Integration Layer</h2>Centrifuge's competitive edge in tokenization technology doesn't come from the tokenization process itself. It stems instead from where the tokenized asset was located after it was issued. As of 2021, MakerDAO was able to take tokens from Centrifuge's pool as RWA collateral for DAI, thus proving that private credit on chain can work at the protocol level. More recently,<a href="https://centrifuge.io/blog/real-world-asset-tokenization-trends-2025" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a><a href="https://centrifuge.io/blog/real-world-asset-tokenization-trends-2025" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Centrifuge's JTRSY and JAAA products are 24-hour collateral for Aave Horizon</a>, allowing the holders of such tokens to borrow stable coins against their Treasury and credit holdings without having to unwind them. With this type of tokenized credit, it is now possible to use this tool as a working capital asset rather than just as a non-liquid yield product. The deRWA framework has further helped expand the reach of that type of collateral to include<a href="https://thedefiant.io/news/tradfi-and-fintech/centrifuge-surpasses-usd1-billion-in-tvl-as-broader-rwa-heats-up" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>six different networks — Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Solana, and Stellar — where Centrifuge's institutional products (deJTRSY and deJAAA) can now be freely transacted. The same degree of multichain portability that is afforded to institutional positions will now exist for native DeFi assets as well. This is not a marketing assertion. Network dependency will no longer impede the ability of tokenized assets to access the full depth of DeFi liquidity; as a result, this will have caused a structural change in how fixed income products operate.<h2>New Asset Classes and the Whitelabel Platform</h2>When private credit was created in 2025, Centrifuge became an integral partner in<a href="https://www.janushenderson.com/en-us/advisor/press-releases/janus-henderson-anemoy-treasury-fund-receives-highest-tokenized-fund-rating/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>Janus Henderson's multi-project partnership. Centrifuge's partnership with Janus Henderson produced two significant DeFi products: the Janus Fund (a Collateralized Loan Obligation [CLO] designed for DeFi investors) and the JTRSY (a tokenized United States Treasury Bill). The launch of Janus Henderson products on public blockchains represented a historic milestone as it was the first time a significant traditional asset manager launched regulated fund products on public blockchains using an infrastructure developer whose primary focus is on DeFi. Both products are regulated by the British Virgin Islands. Sky Protocol's asset management protocol, Grove ($2.5B in managed assets), contributed to the funding of the<a href="https://www.ledgerinsights.com/centrifuge-tokenizes-apollo-private-credit-fund/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>Apollo Diversified Credit Fund Tokenization in the amount of $50 million. Centrifuge developed the Centrifuge Proof-of-Index platform through a partnership with S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices for the purpose of providing support for the launch of the<a href="https://centrifuge.io/blog/centrifuge-sp500-proof-of-index" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>first tokenized S&amp;P 500 index fund. The index components contained in the Index are encrypted and released in real-time on a daily basis; these index components are stored on-chain to ensure the methodology and compliance of the fund and to provide flexibility in establishing index exposure. Centrifuge's Whitelabel Platform was launched in November 2025 and is the foundation of the services offered to customers by way of their tokenized products. Financial institutions, FinTech companies and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) protocols can quickly and efficiently develop and launch their own customized tokenized product using the Centrifuge audited components and quality assurance tools, avoiding having to build everything from scratch. The first customer of the Centrifuge Whitelabel Platform is<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/rwa-specialist-centrifuge-debuts-tokenization-150042710.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>Daylight, a company developing a decentralized energy infrastructure with tokenized vaults for its energy assets and $75 million raised via Framework Ventures. All asset classes that can be created as tokenized assets through the on-chain issuance, reporting and lifecycle management processes will be supported by the Centrifuge Whitelabel Platform.<h2>The 2026 Forecast and What It Requires</h2>According to<a href="https://centrifuge.io/blog/2026-real-world-asset-tokenization" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>Jürgen Blumberg, the COO of Centrifuge, by 2026 the total value locked in RWAs (real world assets) will exceed $100 billion and this year is considered a turning point for RWAs. According to CEO Bhaji Illuminati of Centrifuge, over 50% of all asset managers in the top 50 are now utilizing tokenization techniques, compliance is becoming programmable, and liquidity marketplaces are being created. According to BCG and Ripple,<a href="https://www.coindesk.com/business/2025/11/12/rwa-specialist-centrifuge-debuts-tokenization-service-starting-with-daylight" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>by 2033, the overall tokenization market will equal $19 trillion. Private credit represents the journey from $23.6 billion to $100 billion. The proof of concept was created by Treasury goods. On-chain, there currently is<a href="https://keyrock.com/the-great-tokenization-shift-2025-and-the-road-ahead/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> </a>$12.2 billion of tokenized private credit and a total addressable market of $2 trillion, producing yields of 8% to 12%. Private credit holds the greatest amount of volume in relation to on-chain issuance vs traditional structured credit issuance, and on-chain securitization can reduce costs of private credit by up to 97%. The significant cost savings will not depend on blockchain ideology, but rather a CFO and a calculator.
