Most of these platforms remain siloed –their solutions do not normally connect to other networks. Dash's announcement on Thursday is counter to that history, so it is essential to understand the associated technical implications for both Dash and Zcash before the recent dash price action overshadows the substance of the news. Dash is the Tier 1 blockchain protocol with privacy capabilities; it will integrate Zcash's "Orchard" shielded pool into Dash's Evolution chain; the second tier of the Dash network which enables the implementation of smart contracts. At this point, the integration of the two systems is subject to completion of cybersecurity audits, and it is slated to go live sometime in March. If successful, the integration will be one of the more significant cross-blockchain privacy partnerships in recent years.<h2>What Orchard Actually Is and Why It Matters</h2><a href="https://www.tradingview.com/news/cointelegraph:e0f932e12094b:0-dash-evolution-chain-integrates-zcash-orchard-privacy-pool/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zcash's Orchard Shielded Pool </a>is Zcash's most sophisticated method of implementing privacy on the Zcash network. Orchard utilizes Halo 2, an advanced cryptographic proof system that allows for transaction verification without revealing any data about the participants or the transaction itself. Orchard is the first Zcash privacy implementation created without needing a trusted setup ceremony, which was previously considered a potential vulnerability in the prior generations of zero knowledge proof frameworks by some critics.&nbsp; In a practical sense, Orchard represents the current state of the art in privacy for on-chain transactions that has been thoroughly demonstrated through use in a live blockchain environment. It is not a trial; it has been operating on Zcash's main chain since the Orchid rollout in late 2021. By importing this tested privacy infrastructure from Zcash to Dash's Evolution chain, Dash can benefit from pre-packaged cryptographic privacy tools that would have required construction of a new codebase for Dash.&nbsp; Initially deployed infrastructure enables simple transfer of ZEC between two users via the Evolution Blockchain. The announcement also discusses how, down the road, other parts of Orchard's privacy features will be made available to facilitate the transfer of real-world assets in tokenized form; thus, creating additional commercial value for this type of transfer than for just the new technology.<h2>Why the Evolution Chain Is the Right Place for This</h2>Dash Evolution, which uses a layer built on top of the L1 network, is essentially an infrastructure for supporting more complex application logic than a payments blockchain typically supports. By placing Orchard at the Evolution layer as opposed to at the Base layer, the design allows for continued development and/or experimentation with new features without affecting the stability of the core network. This has implications with respect to how the integration is evaluated. Smart contract platforms require more than just payment privacy; they also require the capability to maintain private state transitions, support confidential/bearer asset transfer functionality, and ultimately support levels of private programmability to ensure that decentralized applications can be made commercially feasible by real-world standards. Orchard was designed around offering shielded payment and is being built, over time, to deliver such broader capabilities. Monetization in the long run is expected to be driven most significantly by the real world asset (RWA) token component. Institutional interest in RWA tokens is growing as more and more institutions tokenize highly sensitive assets and, in turn, desire a transaction history that is protected. The objective is to develop a privacy-focused smart contract layer for RWA transactions.<h2>The Audit Requirement and What It Signals</h2>It is important to call out explicitly that the decision to launch following audit completion before going live is appropriate, and there are many projects in the world that would not have made this choice. Creating a shielded pool in a new environment with cryptography is not just a matter of connecting a few pieces together. The orchard protocol will use complex logic to verify zero-knowledge proofs, and it's essential that that logic will work correctly for the merger's context (in this case "correct" means both functionally and cryptographically). Bugs in this merged configuration that lead to an incorrect verification of verified proofs, or to leaking data that is supposed to be shielded, could make the lack of data protection worse than not including data protection at all. The audit requirement indicates to both parties that the risks associated with failing to ensure the project's success are understood by both parties. Dash experienced a remarkable surge of more than 125% in January, with the price temporarily reaching around $96 on the Binance exchange before retracing back to the current price level of approximately $34. As a result, it is no surprise that people are looking at the integration of Dash into the Orchard ecosystem as a possible catalyst behind this price movement; however, there is no evidence to suggest that it will be a primary driver for the future value of Dash. It seems that it is common for people in the cryptocurrency industry to get carried away and attribute specific price movements to known catalysts. For example, Dash's price activity in January was accomplished prior to the announcement regarding the integration with the Orchard network, making this connection tenuous at best. The price activity for Dash was most likely a result of many other external factors including the over-all price activity for altcoins, various liquidity issues across exchanges, and the nature of lower-cap currencies to be more volatile with increases in risk appetite. In conclusion, Dash's price activity is indicative of the potential for renewed interest from investors in Dash's ability to be used for payment and/or store of value. What remains to be seen is whether or not this renewed interest will be confirmed by actual developments in the process of integrating Dash and the Orchard ecosystem or if some of this renewed interest will have been eroded by speculative trading, the proof of which will not be established until trade data from the implementation of the Orchard/Dash integration can be evaluated post-March rollout.<h2>After March, look out for…</h2> 1. Audit Approval - Before an integration can take place, all cybersecurity audits must be successfully completed without any major architectural changes being required. If there is anything that would cause the need to change the launch date or have issues with re-structuring, this will impact the entire timeline and future credibility of any ZEC integration upgrades. 2. Transfer Amount- If a significant amount of ZEC transfers to the Evolution chain, it will validate the assumption of demand by fully executing against the entire roadmap. 3. RWA Privacy Significance- The last and most important objective for a successful RWA privacy integration by both teams is whether there is enough institutional or developer interest for the RWA privacy functionality for technical spending by both teams to warrant creating this integration. Integrations of this nature between protocols at this level are rare, and the overall value of this integration by the market will depend on execution, which will begin in March.
