1Hive Water is a shared liquidity token on the Gnosis Chain that serves as a proxy for shared liquidity among different community tokens. It is an integral part of the broader 1Hive initiative, specifically designed to support and stabilize its associated decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).

Water's core function involves adding its entire circulating supply into liquidity pools alongside various community tokens. This strategy allows Water to operate as a self-balancing index for its paired assets. Participating communities contribute their native tokens, which are then paired with Water on various decentralized exchange platforms. This mechanism efficiently facilitates token swaps and minimizes price slippage, enabling tokens within the Water ecosystem to access shared, robust liquidity.

The main objective of the WATER token is to provide sustainable and scalable liquidity for its partner tokens, including 1Hive's own Honey (HNY) token. By primarily restricting its use to liquidity pools, WATER can offer substantial liquidity for numerous projects and function as an index token. This design helps address common challenges faced by DAOs, such as maintaining adequate liquidity for their governance tokens, ultimately benefiting from correlation with its paired assets.

1Hive Water directly supports the 1Hive ecosystem, particularly the Honey (HNY) token, by ensuring sustainable liquidity. The `hiveWATER` initiative specifically applies Water's tokenomic model to the 1Hive DAO. Its objective is to enhance the value of `hiveWATER`, which in turn supports the underlying value of HNY without compromising HNY's critical role as a governance token.

Initially, Water provides liquidity for a range of established tokens and their respective communities. These include 1Hive ($HNY), Token Engineering Commons ($TEC), BrightID ($BRIGHT), Giveth ($GIV), Shapeshift ($FOX), and Opolis ($WORK). These diverse communities contribute their native tokens to form essential liquidity pairs with WATER.

Water's governance model prioritizes security and simplicity through a multi-signature Gnosis Safe. A dedicated board, composed of representatives from participating communities, acts as signers for these Safes. These individuals are responsible for crucial operations such as minting Water tokens, funding liquidity pools, and managing LP tokens. Any decisions extending beyond the initial setup, including the addition of new DAOs, typically require a high level of consensus, often 75% agreement among the signers.
