K9 Finance DAO is a decentralized platform serving the Shibarium network as its official Liquid Staking Derivatives (LSD) solution. Its primary purpose is to allow users to stake their assets to secure the network while receiving a liquid derivative token in return. This allows participants to earn staking rewards without losing access to their liquidity, which can then be utilized across other decentralized finance protocols.

$KNINE acts as the native governance and utility token for the K9 Finance ecosystem. Holders gain voting rights within the 'Roundtable of Dogs,' the DAO's governing body, allowing them to influence project direction and protocol upgrades. Additionally, users can stake $KNINE to earn 'Real Yield' paid in $BONE. This yield is generated from actual platform revenue and validator fees rather than inflationary emissions, providing a sustainable incentive for participants.

Following a September 2025 exploit on the Shibarium bridge that affected approximately 23% of the total KNINE supply, the DAO issued an ultimatum to the Shiba Inu development team. The DAO demanded full compensation for affected users by January 6, 2026. As of January 8, 2026, no official reports confirming full restitution have been released. Consequently, the community is currently preparing for a formal vote to decide if the project should maintain its presence on Shibarium or migrate to a different blockchain.

When users stake $BONE, the native gas token of Shibarium, they receive knBONE on a 1:1 basis. This liquid staking token earns rewards while remaining tradable or usable in other DeFi applications. Conversely, esKNINE is an escrowed version of the token typically distributed as rewards. To convert esKNINE into liquid $KNINE tokens, users must complete a designated vesting period. These mechanisms are designed to balance immediate liquidity needs with long-term ecosystem stability.

Due to ongoing disputes regarding the bridge exploit, K9 Finance DAO is exploring 'Strategic Pathways' that include potential migrations to alternative blockchains like Sui or Polygon. While a multi-chain approach was already part of the long-term roadmap, the recent security issues have accelerated discussions regarding a full exit from Shibarium. To assist users, the project introduced 'Agent 9,' an AI assistant designed to help community members navigate governance, check staking yields, and manage their positions.

The $KNINE token has a total supply of approximately 1 trillion tokens.
