Raptoreum utilizes the specialized GhostRider algorithm, which is purposefully designed to be ASIC and FPGA-resistant. This algorithm favors CPUs with large L3 caches because it frequently switches between different hashing functions, a process that is highly inefficient for specialized hardware or GPUs. This design choice promotes network decentralization by allowing standard consumer CPUs to participate in securing the blockchain.

The GhostRider algorithm performs best on processors with significant L3 cache per core. High-performance CPUs like the AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 series are widely recommended by the community. These units provide the architectural requirements needed to handle the algorithm's frequent switching effectively, offering superior performance compared to hardware with smaller caches.

Smartnodes are specialized servers that provide the network with advanced features such as InstantSend, PrivateSend, and increased security against attacks through Chainlocks. To operate a full Smartnode, a user must provide a collateral of 1.25 million RTM. For users who do not have the full collateral amount, third-party hosting services allow participants to pool their resources and earn a proportional share of the rewards.

Miners and Smartnodes serve different but complementary roles in the ecosystem. Miners provide Proof-of-Work (PoW) to secure the network and validate blocks through computational power. Smartnodes provide a secondary layer of additional services and enhanced security features. While miners focus on the fundamental ledger, Smartnode operators provide infrastructure for faster transactions and protocol stability, with both roles receiving incentives from the network.

Raptoreum supports native asset creation, which allows for the launch of NFTs and tokens directly on the blockchain without the need for complex or vulnerable smart contracts. This reduces security risks and simplifies the development process for creators. Additionally, the platform aims to support common programming languages like Java, Python, and Scala, making it significantly easier for traditional developers to build Web3 applications.

Because native RTM operates on its own unique blockchain, it is not compatible with standard Ethereum-based wallets. For native storage, users should utilize the RTM Core Wallet or compatible multi-currency mobile wallets. To interact with decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems, users can bridge their tokens to other chains. RTM can be traded on global cryptocurrency exchanges such as LBank.
